Notes: From Macon, MS. Was involved in a videotaped incident his senior year in high school in which he is shown repeatedly striking a woman who in an argument with his younger sister. Simmons pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and was found guilty of malicious mischief, fined $475 and paid $886 in restitution. The woman involved in the incident was found guilty of disturbing the peace, while his sister and mother were also charged with simple assault and disturbing the peace. Mississippi State allowed Simmons to enroll later in 2016. The school suspended Simmons for one game and required him to be evaluated by licensed professionals at its Student Counseling Services. Played in 12 games with 3 starts at defensive tackle, making 40 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 2 PBU and 2 FF in 2016. Started all 13 games, with 60 tackles, 12 TFL, 5 sacks, 1 PBU, 2 FF, 2 FR, 3 blocked kicks and scored 2 touchdowns on defense in 2017. Underwent a minor procedure on his should following the 2017 season. Volunteers in the community.

Positives: Powerful build and excellent weight-room numbers (can bench-press over 450 pounds, squat more than 600 and carries just 15 percent body fat and 300 pounds). Consistently double-teamed, yet has power and quickness to shed blocks and make plays.

Negatives: Despite his off-field track record since, the incident when he was 18-years-old will be an issue for scouts and will require explaining.

Summary: A first-round talent without question, but the high school incident will be scrutinized uniquely by all 32 NFL teams, possibly affecting his final draft status.
