Jamel Dean, CB, Auburn #12

6006, 208, 4.57

Notes: From Cocoa, FL. Spent a semester at Ohio State before enrolling at Auburn. The Buckeyes had declared him medically ineligible after suffering multiple knee injuries in high school. Redshirted in 2015. Missed 2016 due to injury sustained in fall camp. Played in 14 games with 43 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss and 8 pass breakups in 2017. Played in 12 games, posted 30 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 11 PBU and 1 fumble recovery in 2018. Earned his degree in May 2018.

Positives: Very nice size and length. Near prototype build. Tenacious with hands. Smooth athlete who can mirror receivers in coverage. Closes on balls in front of him extremely well. Challenges and competes for the football well. Physical, face-up hitter and tackler.

Negatives: Needs much technique work. Fails to get his head around and react to the ball with his back to the ball, negating otherwise tight coverage. Tends to be too handsy. Some injury history that merits checking.

Summary: Productivity will improve greatly as he is able to learn to react to the ball, as he otherwise has good tools to succeed.
